IEEE Finland Section best student paper award

Dear all,

I would like to thank you all once again for submitting nominations and for your patience!

The competition was really tight this year especially in the conference paper category. We had in total 12 nominations:

  • 9 student conference papers
  • 3 student journal papers

We are glad to announce that the winner of the IEEE Finland Section best student journal paper award 2020 is the paper:
Risto Ojala with the paper “Novel Convolutional Neural Network-Based Roadside Unit for Accurate Pedestrian Localisation” published in IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems.

We also have 3 finalists in the best conference paper category (in no particular order):

  • F. M. Mahafugur, “Rahman State-Space Control for LCL Filters: Comparison Between the Converter and Grid Current Measurements” in 2019 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE)
  • Vitaly Petrov, “Exploiting Multipath Terahertz Communications for Physical Layer Security in Beyond 5G Networks” in IEEE INFOCOM 2019 – IEEE Conference on Computer Communications Workshops (INFOCOM WKSHPS)
  • Zitong Yu, Wei Peng, “Remote Heart Rate Measurement From Highly Compressed Facial Videos: An End-to-End Deep Learning Solution With Video Enhancement” in 2019 IEEE/CVF International Conference on Computer Vision (ICCV)

To select the winner, the award committee is proposing to arrange an online Webinar, where the authors are invited to present their work in a concise (15-20 minutes) and possibly popular way. Shortly after that the award committee will make the final decision and will announce the winner.
All IEEE members will be invited.

Healthy continuation of 2021 to everybody!

Best regards,
Dmitry Petrov,
IEEE Finland section chair
