ETHICS 2016 – Doctoral Workshop, 12 May 2016 – Call for Participation

The IEEE International Symposium on Ethics in Engineering, Science and Technology (ETHICS 2016) will host a free half-day Doctoral Workshop for students on the afternoon of Thursday, 12 May 2016. All Masters and PhD research students attending the main ETHICS 2016 conference are invited to participate in this Workshop. Attendance at the workshop will give postgraduate research students the opportunity for networking with senior conference presenters and participants in a supportive environment prior to the conference.

What is the Doctoral Workshop?

The Doctoral Workshop is a forum designed to provide postgraduate students the opportunity to discuss – in a friendly and supportive environment – their research approach and any research challenges they are facing. This is relevant for postgraduate students both at the beginning of their research and at an advanced stage.

Who can attend and participate?

All students registered to attend the main conference are welcome to attend the Doctoral Workshop; however, to be eligible to participate in the Workshop you need to be a PhD or Masters research student. Admission to the Doctoral Workshop is free; however, you need to register your intent to attend by emailing the Doctoral Workshop Chair, Philip Hall (philip.hall@ieee.org).

Please note that, even if you do not want to present at the Workshop, you can still attend. However, you must register for the Workshop by sending an email to the Workshop Chair, Philip Hall (philip.hall@ieee.org).

Submissions to the Workshop

Only 6 positions are available for postgraduate students to present submissions at the Workshop. Submissions should relate to the student’s area of research, be in English and between 2 to 4 pages (excluding references) in PDF format, and structured as follows:

1. Aims and Background;

2. Significance and Innovation;

3. Methodology; and

4. Questions and Issues.

Submissions are to be forwarded to the Workshop Chair, Philip Hall (philip.hall@ieee.org) by 15 April 2016. You will be notified by 20 April 2016 if your submission has been accepted for presentation at the Workshop.

Presentation of Accepted Submissions

Selected students will have 15 minutes to present their submission (typically a power point presentation), followed by 15 minutes interactive commentary with the Doctoral Workshop Panel, which comprises experienced researchers in fields addressed by the main conference.
