Santiago de Guayaquil is the most popolous city in the Republic of Ecuador. It has about 2.7 million habitants and sits in the west bank of the River Guayas. Guayaquil is also de capital of the Guayas province and the nations main port. Guayaquil has been recently awarded as the leading business travel destination of South America.
The city of Guayaquil has several touristic attractions as Cerro las Peñas, River Guayas Malecon, and Malecon del Salado. Guayaquil is also a main spot for shopping. Recently a bicycle route bridge has been built between Isla Santay park and the city; allowing tourists to have family trips and enjoying the natural wonders of the River Guayas natural reserves.
Very near to Guayaquil is the city of Samborondon, where people can enjoy of the Parque Histórico Zoo and an old city centre resemblance. Samborondon is also a very cosmopolitan district where high profile restaurants can be found.
The city of Guayaquil is accessible through its international airport, which has won for several years the distinction of the Best Airport of SouthAmerica. Guayaquil has daily flights to and from Quito, Cuenca, and Loja. Guayaquil is also a main departure hub to the Galapagos Islands.

Important notice: Guayaquil is a big city, as in any big city people are exposed to minor safety issues. One of the major crime threats in Guayaquil are illegal taxis. Only book taxis from the lobby desk of your hotel or from the taxi bay at the airport or ask your hotel to provide you with the name and number of a taxi company. DO NOT use taxis from the streets. Taxis are legally bound to use taxi-meters. It is your right to ask the driver to put on the meter before you board the vehicle.
