Joint Consultants Network and YP Event

The IEEE Dallas Consultants Network and IEEE Dallas Young Professionals are holding a joint speaker event on the topic of “9 Secrets of Healthy Travel” on 6/12. Our speaker John Ayo (http://speakercoop.com/John-Ayo) has been researching mind/body/spirit topics since 1976. He worked in sales for IBM for 27 years, where the stress of “Corporate America” caused him to examine his priorities in life. He began having health issues around 1999 that could not be addressed by the traditional medical model of “fixing symptoms”. This led him on an amazing journey back to health . . . and to his true passion. Event registration and more info here: https://meetings.vtools.ieee.org/m/42443

June Social Event

Come join the IEEE Dallas Young Professionals on our annual 5K fun run on Wednesday June 28th at the Katy Trail Ice House (picture shown is from last year)! …don’t worry, we’ll have a route for walkers and leisurely joggers too. Arrive around or shortly after 6pm, because it will take time to park in such a popular spot along the Katy Trail, and we will begin running around 6:15pm or 6:30pm. We will have 3 pace groups (faster jogger, slower jogger, and walker) and we will all be done together around 7pm…at which point we will enjoy some food and a great patio! STEM volunteer opportunity in May

Join IEEE Dallas Young Professionals and the Shoulders of Giants at Cannon Elementary for their 2017 Young Engineers’ Night Expo.

This Expo helps kids explore today’s technologies and the unlimited opportunities of tomorrow with hands-on activities and exhibits. The event is designed for all ages and helps them imagine the technological possibilities of the future and map out career options in STEM.

We need volunteers for this STEM event in which we will be teaching children the fundamentals of electronics and electromagnetics by helping them build a wireless power transfer circuit that will wirelessly turn on a LED.

Photos from the UTD EiR April event

On April 12th, the Engineer in Residence (EiR) Committee held an IEEE YP-sponsored Entrepreneur Panel event at UT Dallas. EiR is a program at UTD that allows students in the school of Engineering and Computer Science to meet with industry professionals for technical advice and career guidance. EiR brought six entrepreneurs to speak to students about their passions and experiences: Avery Spencer, Chad Hebel, Dennis Robbins, David Hitt, Alex Ross, and Urshel Metcalf. They offered advice to audience members during a Q&A section at the end, and students were able to talk with the panelists one-on-one over pizza afterwards. What a great way for EiR to end the school year for UTD students!
