Abstract: Networks continue to transition from Purpose built systems based on fixed function ASIC’s to accommodate programmable devices. Barefoot brings a programmable via a language called P4 to the critical layer 2 switch devices. The value and flexibility of these programmable switches is critical to their adoption as is the need for open source for the profiles and protocols. The path forward in this transformation to a more programmable network will be covered.

BIO: John Demay Sr. Director of Business Development at Barefoot Networks (an Intel Company). One of the early employee of Barefoot, starting before their first silicon tapeout, he was instrumental in bringing two product lines to market, the Tofino and Tofino2 chips. Previously a member of Broadcom where he participated in the launch of multiple generations of switching products including Triumph, Scorpion, Tomahawk, and Trident.
