September 2019 – Tour at DOE Nuclear Enrichment Site

Another great tour at DOE nuclear enrichment site by involving Ohio University women engineering students. Audiences learned the history and some knowledge of this nuclear facility and its operations. After the tour, they had a group lunch and socialized among students and industry professionals.

Join the IEEE Columbus Power and Energy Society (PES) and Society of Women Engineers (OU Student Chapter) as we tour the Portsmouth Department of Energy (DOE) site in Piketon, Ohio. The site’s most prominent function was as a uranium enrichment facility from the 1950s-2000s, primarily in support of the US Defense Program. On this tour, we will witness the nuclear decommissioning activities currently underway, and learn about new plans for the facilities and land. Afterwards, we’ll meet for networking at a nearby restaurant to reflect on our “rad” tour-venture!
