IEEE Charlotte March 2015 Update

IEEE Header
Hello IEEE Charlotte members,

The section has several technical and general interest programs scheduled this spring. To simplify planning, we will begin holding regular meetings on recurring days of the month (with a few ad hoc meetings, too).

  • 2nd Thursdays are Technical Meetings. Most of these will be scheduled at UNC-C or at CPCC (central campus) to maximize student member participation.
  • 4th Tuesdays are Facility Tours. Most of these meetings will cover technical processes or tour industrial facilities, even when we pick a venue mostly for fun (USNWC, NoDa Brewery, Panthers (BofA) Stadium… all fun, plus see how things work behind the scenes!).
  • IEEE Charlotte plans no meetings for July (most members are otherwise committed).

Here are meetings (and hosts… round of applause) for the next few meetings (always updated on our IEEE website and our Meetup site).

  • Panther Stadium (3/19; note: not a 4th Tues, but the 3rd Thurs; we just switch to a regular schedule) – Bruce Magruder.
  • Cyber-security overview (4/2) – Scott Kuntzelman
  • Marshall Steam Station (4/27 – tentative) – Sukumar Kamalasadan
  • EPRI (5/28 – tentative) – Bruce Magruder

Here’s how to get the information on demand (because who remembers email announcements?).

  • If you prefer real-time information, right on your own computer, SUBSCRIBE to our calendar (here’s an iCal link).
  • If you prefer to check back occasionally, then bookmark our website.
  • If you want to get emails about each activity as it’s scheduled (or get email reminders for the ones you plan to attend), then join our Meetup site.

We’re always looking for new meeting ideas, too:

  • Want to make a presentation about your company, product or service? (we can provide a venue or come to yours)
  • Have an idea for a service activity?
  • Want to host a tour (or know of a place you’d like to see)?
  • Then CONTACT US. We’ll help make it happen!

As always, Technical Meetings (and most tours are a GREAT way to get some PDHs without cost – if you need attendance confirmation, just let any officer know at the event & we will send it).

Engineers make the world work,

Ken Dunn
