Reports by Prof. Antonio J Plaza and Prof. Jun Li

December 30, 2017 @ 2:00 pm - 5:30 pm CST

On December 30, 2017, the GRSS Changsha Chapter invited Prof. Antonio J. Plaza from University of Extremadura, and Prof. Jun Li from Sun Yat-sen University, to give technical reports in Hunan University. Prof. Antonio J. Plaza is IEEE Fellow, and the previous Chief-in-Editor of IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing. Prof. Jun Li serves as Associate Editor of IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing. As two famous international experts in remote sensing domain, they give very important reports in doing related research from two different aspects, which attracts more than 50 participants.

First, Prof. Antonio J. Plaza gives a report on “How to publish a paper with IEEE”, which focused on the key issues about how to prepare, submit and publish the scientific papers in journals and international conferences, especially in IEEE related publications. The main contents of his report include good research motivation, clear logic, fluent expression in English, standardized formation, etc. In addition, he also shows some specific examples to illustrate how to avoid writing errors. This report

Then, Prof. Jun Li Prof. Jun Li gives another report on “Spectral spatial classification of hyperspectral images”. During this report, she detailed introduces multiple classic hyperspectral image classification methods, including traditional sparse representation based approaches and its variants, feature extraction based approaches, etc. Her report gives a highly summarization of both classical and state-of-the-art hyperspectral image classification methods in the view of spatial-dependency system.

At the end, Prof. Plaza and Prof. Li give very suggestive advices to the students in scientific research and strongly encourage them to devote themselves to the research of remote sensing field. Furthermore, all the participants had a heated discussion about some key issues in hyperspectral remote sensing.
