Prof. Ya-qiu Jin is the Fellow of IEEE, who is the founding chairman of IEEE GRSS Beijing Chapter in 1998-2003 and was awarded the IEEE GRSS Outstanding Achievement Award. On December 13, 2017, the GRSS Changsha Chapter invited Prof. Ya-qiu Jin to give a technical lecture on “Research and application of space microwave remote sensing”. The venue of this lecture is located in Hunan University, Changsha.
This lecture is focused on the theme of the development of microwave remote sensing technique and its applications, which is hosted by Prof. Shutao Li, the chair of the GRSS Changsha Chapter. First, Prof. Jin introduced the basic principle about transmission and propagation of electromagnetic wave scattering radiation, fundamental theory and technique of remote sensing based earth observation, etc. Afterwards, he made a detailed explanation of the advanced development of space microwave remote sensing technique as well as its applications in various fields, including the multi-temporal SAR image change detection, artificial intelligence-auto target recognition, feature extraction and image classification, etc. In addition, he also introduced the future direction of this field and the difficulties which need to be solved.
This excellent academic lecture by Prof. Jin attracted more than 100 participants from Changsha and neighboring areas, including professors, young researchers, and students. At the end of the lecture, a hot discussion is raised among both the participants and Prof. Jin. Furthermore, Prof. Jin puts forward lots of valuable suggestions for the future scientific research work for researchers and students. He sincerely encourages young students and researchers to involve in the remote sensing area.
