Programming Competition for Students to Host Practice Event on September 21st

IEEEXtreme 18.0, the 24-hour programming competition for IEEE students will host a practice event on Saturday, September 21st, 2024. According to event organizers, PreXtreme is a warm-up for the true IEEEXtreme competition, which begins on October 26th, 2024.

  • The deadline to register for the practice event is September 18th.
  • The deadline to register for the true IEEEXtreme 18.0 event is October 12th.

In the PreXtreme practice event, registered teams will face 6 challenges in 6 hours, beginning from the first login time of any team member. Teams will have a 24-hour window in which to start.

To avoid time and date confusion, universal coordinated time (UTC) is the official time zone for both events. The practice event will run from 00:00 UTC (7 PM Central Time) on September 21st to 23:59:59 UTC (6:59:59 PM Central Time) on September 22nd, 2024.

Entrants must be an IEEE student member or an IEEE graduate student member to participate in the competition. If you are not a member yet, please join IEEE now.

What Coding Languages and Compilers are Allowed?

According to the IEEExtreme.org frequently asked questions site, a list of permitted coding languages is maintained at: https://csacademy.com/about/environment/.

As of this writing, a total of 28 languages have been approved, including Python 2 and 3, Java, JavaScript, C, C++, C#, PHP 8.0.8, Go, Ruby, and several others.

Can Non-Student IEEE Members Participate?

Yes! IEEEXtreme and the IEEE Central Illinois Section are looking for non-student members to act as proctors for the event. Proctors must not help teams with their submissions in any way. Instead, proctors must ensure that their assigned teams do not receive outside help (including help from artificial intelligence), and notify students of how much time remains, among other responsibilities.

To enter, proctors must be of an IEEE membership grade other than “student” or “graduate student” (e.g. member, associate member, senior member, life member, fellow, etc.).

Student Branch Presence is Optional
