March 13, 2020

Dear IEEE PES Boston members:

In the last few weeks, many of us have been closely following the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak around the world. Our heartfelt concern and best wishes are with anyone affected. We encourage you to get additional information at the WHO website and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website, if you haven’t already. As of March 12, 2020, there have been 6 confirmed cases and 102 presumptive positive cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. Check out Massachusetts Gov website for details.

Regarding the IEEE PES Boston Chapter, we write today to update you on major near-term changes intended to limit exposure to the disease for members of our community:

  • The IEEE PES Boston Annual Dinner is being postponed from May 2020 to a later date this year. We value your interest and support of this annual flagship event. We apologize for the inconvenience and are disappointed that we will not see you in May; but look forward to hosting you all later in Fall 2020. We will communicate more on this after we have determined the date.
  • The Technical Meeting for March 2020 is cancelled; the Technical Meeting for April 2020 will be offered via WebEx only; the event flyer will be circulated shortly.
  • The next Educational Course will be offered this spring via WebEx only; details are being firmed and the course flyer will be shared shortly.
  • The Executive Committee will continue to hold its monthly meetings over WebEx and evaluate the latest information and plan upcoming events accordingly.

Health and safety of our community is of utmost importance to us and we will keep it our topmost priority in any of our decisions. We will continue to follow state and local health authority guidance, take precautionary steps as warranted, and keep you informed. Thank you for understanding as we take these important steps for your health and safety, and the safety of our communities. We will keep you posted as we confirm details of upcoming events.

To stay current, please keep an eye on our website.

Sincerely,
IEEE PES Boston Executive Committee
