EnLight: An Online Idea Contest

An idea contest titled “Enlight” focusing on Technical Approach to Prevent Locust Swarm is held from May 23 to June 20, 2020 in association with IEEE PES AUST Student Branch Chapter and IEEE PES BRACU Student Branch Chapter. As we know an outbreak of Locust swarms has occurred in many countries across East Africa, the Middle East and South Asia including our neighbor India and Pakistan threatening the food security, every effort must be made to ensure that the hunger threat does not become a fully-fledged plague. Keeping this scenario in consideration, during the COVID-19 pandemic crisis, IEEE Power & Energy Society- Bangladesh Chapter, in association with IEEE PES AUST Student Branch Chapter and IEEE PES BRACU Student Branch Chapter organized a virtual competitive event titled as “EnLight: An Online Idea Contest” themed upon ‘Technical Approach to Prevent Locust Swarm’ from May 23 to June 20, 2020. The registration was free and students had the flexibility to participate individually or as a team of a maximum of 3 members. Participants from different disciplines of different universities shared their idea by writing a concept paper and presented it through a video. After rigorous analysis of the submissions, our judge panel consisting of distinguished faculty members from different universities and PES executive members awarded the top two ideas. Sanzana Tabassum from Islamic University of Technology (IUT) received the winner prize and team ‘Screaming Eagle’ (Md. Mahmudul Kabir Peyal, Afrin Hossain Puspita and Anirudha Barman) from Brac University won the runner-up position. Apart from the prize money they received appreciation certificates. Also, the following teams/participant received honorable mentions for their outstanding ideas:

  • Team ‘Eradicators’ (Sheza Aini Mumu, Tasin Intisar, Chowdhury Sadeeya Naimah Islamic University of Technology)
  • Rafichha Yasmin (Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology)
  • Team ‘Bracu Elites’ (Tahmin Mahmud, Md. Tushar Imran, Azraf Nafi Barshan from Brac University)

Overall this was a very successful event with the excellent support from IEEE PES AUST Student Branch Chapter and IEEE PES BRACU Student Branch Chapter. To read the articles click here.
