IEEE Power & Energy Society(PES) Bangladesh Chapter- AGM (2019) & Executive Committee Election (2020)

 

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) and the Election of IEEE Power and Energy Society (IEEE PES) Bangladesh Chapter (BDC) 2020 was held on 8th January at EEE Department meeting room (Room No UB 50403), Brac University. The event was started at 4:00 PM and continued till 6:30 PM. Almost 30 participants from academics, professionals, graduate students attended on that event. The event was started with AGM. In the AGM, the immediate past secretary Mr. Redwan Ferdous from Aamra Group presented the brief activities of the year 2019. Total 8 events were reported, comprised of different Seminar, Technical Workshop, Industrial Tour and Conference. After that, the immediate past Treasurer Ms. Shaila Arif, Assistant Professor from Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology discussed and presented the financial statement of 2019.

 

2019 International conference on Energy and Power Engineering (2019 ICEPE), the first ever power and energy related conference of Bangladesh was the 1st event of 2019. It was technically co-sponsored by IEEE Power & Energy Society and organized by Brac University held on 14-16 March, 2019 at BCDM, Savar, Dhaka. IEEE PES Bangladesh Chapter volunteered on executing the 3 days international conference successfully. Almost 250 participants including national, international authors, volunteers, guests, IEEE and Non-IEEE Members were attended the conference.

Student (University Level) Project Competition (Hardware) was initiated in the 1st ever 2019 ICEPE where more than 10 projects were submitted and among them, top 4 were invited to showcase. Top 2 team were awarded including certificate and mobile phone.

 

The 1st ever industrial tour from IEEE PES Bangladesh Chapter was initiated at the prominent power transmission and generation equipment manufacturer “Reverie Power & Automation Engineering Ltd.”, Narsingdi, Bangladesh held on 13th July, 2019. It was a day long tour accompanied by different faculty members and final year or tends to final year students. Total Participants were 26 from 08 different universities.

 

1st technical Seminar on Industrial and Biomedical Applications of Power Electronics took place at Brac University GDLN Center on 24th July, 2019 co-organized by IEEE PES Bangladesh Chapter, IEEE PES BRACU SBC and IEEE BRACU Student Branch. The speaker was Dr. Faisal Khan, Associate Professor at the University of Missouri, Kansas City, USA as well as senior member of IEEE and an Associate Editor of IEEE Transaction on Power Electronics. Almost 45 participants were attended the seminar from EEE department.

 

2nd technical Seminar on “Automation Scopes in Bangladesh” held on 10th July, 2019 at the seminar Room of Ahsanullah University of Science & Technology. Total 80 Participants (44 Non-IEEE Members, 36 IEEE Members) were attended on that event. The speaker was Mr. Abdur Rahman Noble, Director, Reverie Power and Automation Engineering Ltd and Mr. Ariful Hoque, Managing Director, Reverie Power and Automation Engineering Ltd. The program was ended after giving the small token of appreciation to the speaker by the IEEE PES Bangladesh Chapter Chair Prof. Dr. Shahidul Islam Khan and the chairperson of AUST EEE Dept. Prof. Dr. A.K.M Ehtesanul Islam.

 

3rd Technical Semianr on “Basic Grid Substation Operation and Maintenance” was held on 16th July, 2019 at North South University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Total participants were 65. The speaker was S.M. Nurul Islam Faruk, Executive Engineer of Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB), a Government Enterprise of Bangladesh.

A technical workshop on “Solving Power System Problems through Simulations” took place on 9th September, 2019 at AUST. Total Participants were 45 from 06 different institutions. Among them 29 were Non-IEEE members and 12 were IEEE Members. The Instructors were Professor Dr. Tareq Aziz, AUST, Ms. Shaila Arif, Assistant Professor, AUST and Mr. Mushfiqul Ahmed, Lecturer, AUST.

 

Besides Mrs. Shaila Arif, Treasurer of 2019 IEEE PES Bangladesh Chapter and Asst. Professor of AUST had participated IEEE PES Chapter Chair’s meeting of 2019 at Macau.

 

In 2019- IEEE PES Bangladesh Chapter has got new Student Branch Chapter from Ahsanullah University of Science & Technology. The SBC is named as “IEEE PES AUST Student Branch Chapter”. The IEEE PES AUST SBC Inaugurated on 10th July, 2019 with presence of IEEE PES Bangladesh Chapter Ex-Com members (Chair: Prof. Dr. Shahhidul Islam Khan, Vice- Chair: Prof. Dr. Tareq Aziz, Secretary: Redwan Ferdous and Treasurer: Shaila Arif, Asst. Prof )

 

At the end of the AGM the future plan for the year 2020 has been discussed. The committee will take initiative to open at least 04 PES Student Branch Chapters.  Also IEEE PES Bangladesh Congress- a large gathering of power and energy professionals in Bangladesh is proposed. Besides decision of arranging impactful technical seminar, Distinguish Lecture program and workshop has been taken. Moreover initial issues on arranging 2nd International Conference on Energy and power Engineering (ICEPE) has been discussed.

 

After the ending of AGM, the election of the Ex-Com of 2020 was executed in the presence of Prof. Dr. Mosaddequr Rahman from Department of EEE, Brac University as election commissioner. The following members are being elected as the ExCom:
