EMC Conducted Immunity Applications and Standards Update – MIL-STD-461 & IEC61000-4-x
Speaker: Gene Arbogast, HV Technologies (EMC Division Manager)
Abstract: MIL-STD-461 has been in a state of constant evolution since its first publication in 1967 as MIL-STD-461A to provide a joint specification for the US Army, Air Force, and Navy. All versions of MIL-STD-461 remain valid and relevant because military equipment is expensive and has a relatively long lifespan compared to equipment in the commercial sector. This presentation will discuss some of the more significant changes to MIL-STD-461 over the course of the last 30 years and provide test equipment set-up solutions for current and previous versions of the standard, to include Electro-Static Discharge (CS118) and Indirect Lightning (CS117) tests from the latest MIL-STD-461G.
Like MIL-STD-461 the international commercial standards for EMC have also undergone a steady series of revisions. These latest developments will be presented in an “IEC61000-4-x Basic Standards Update”, to include a focused discussion on IEC 61000-4-5, Edition 3 “Surge Transient Basics”.
