Each year the IEEE Albuquerque Section, in collaboration with the UNM Sigma Xi Chapter, recognizes the efforts of its membership to improve the organization and bring merit to our profession.

In previous years, the awards have been presented during the annual banquet. This year, we did not have a banquet in observance of the health care order in place in New Mexico but we followed the award selection process and we had three awards that were delivered to the awardees by our activities coordinator, Ray Byrne.

We hope that we can resume our annual banquet in 2021 and we will post any news as soon as we progress on our planning.

Congratulations to all the awardees for their hard work and dedication:

•Outstanding Young Engineer Award: Brian Pierre – “for the development of algorithms and software tools to co-optimize grid resilience and reliability”, nominated by Ray Byrne

•Outstanding Engineering Educator Award: Prof. Ali Bidram – “for outstanding contributions in education, engineering, and research in Smart Grid power engineering”, nominated separately by Matthew Reno and Edl Schamiloglu

•Outstanding Graduate Engineering Award: Georgios Fragkos – “for outstanding academic performance in the field of Computing and Communications”, nominated by Prof. Eirini Eleni Tsiropoulou

Thank you,

Gilberto
