This will be a joint Section and PES Chapter meeting.
The impending prospects of 5G mobile network deployments have created both a sense of anticipation as well as a sense of apprehension by the general public. As engineers, we have both the opportunity and duty to be informed and to inform others in order to seek the best outcomes. 5G networks, if deployed, are expected to increase data throughput over mobile networks by a full order of magnitude, but they carry with them their own technical and political challenges. Understanding these issues can help engineers communicate the facts to the public and help prevent unnecessary impediments to technological progress.
