The 1st Africa Conference was held between 18th – 22nd May (Virtually). This event featured 31 thematically focused sessions with over 95 presenters from public, private, education, and research organizations from 21 countries. It incorporated a mix of plenary presentations and thematic paper sessions presenting results across the conference thematic areas.
Among the thematic areas were e-Infrastructure, Global Development, Societal Implications of Technology, eGovernment, Content Technologies, eHealth, Entrepreneurship, Next Generation Computing, CyberSecurity, Technology-enhanced Learning, e-Agriculture, Environment Sustainability
The IEEE Africa Council participated in one of the plenaries. The Council was led by the Chair, Vincent Kaabunga.

On 13th November, 2019 IEEE Tech Talk Series on Blockchain Technology took place at ASHESI University campus. Firstly, Ing Isaac Boakye delivered a presentation on IEEE Membership and it’s benefits. After that, that Dr. Narendra Kumar (the Associate Dean, BlueCrest University, Ghana) took over the session and explained the basic architecture of the block chain and the use of cryptographic algorithms in block chain. The Action for Industry Ambassadors workshop was held in Nairobi, Kenya on August 27th and 28th, 2019 . It was an amazing event that brought together representatives from different countries in attendance. Represented were members from Egypt, Nigeria, Uganda, Tunisia, UK, Cyprus and Ireland. The objective of the meeting was to discuss the strategies that need to be put in place to ensure engagement with the industries in the countries. The representatives shared the best approaches that they worked with to achieve partnership in their countries and how to move forward with the results as seen.

On Wednesday 21st August 2019, the IEEE Africa Council held an open Forum for IEEE members during the 2019 IEEE PowerAfrica Conference in Abuja. Prof Gloria Chukwudebe, Chair Africa Council declared the Forum open at about 2:36pm. She briefly outlined the objectives of the Council and the journey so far. Subsequently, Mr. Sampath Veeraraghavan (the Chair, 2019 IEEE SIGHT Steering Committee) made an eye-opening presentation on the how IEEE SIGHT works. IEEE Liberia Subsection on Friday August 2, 2019 held its first meeting in the Liberian capital, Monrovia. The meeting took place at BlueCrest University College’s auditorium. As a result, many dignitaries, professional, senior, graduate and students members of IEEE gathered together.
IEEE delegation attended the Transform Africa Summit (TAS2019) that took place from 14th to 17th May 2019 in Kigali, Rwanda. The theme of the Summit was “Boosting Africa’s Digital Economy”. His Excellency Paul Kagame, the President of Rwanda declared the Summit open. In his speech, he asserted that Africa has all the required resources needed for digital transformation for economic growth.
