We wish you a warm welcome to the University of Southampton and we hope you have a pleasant stay. This A-Z directory should provide all the information you will need, however, if you do have any questions or concerns during your stay, please contact our 24 hour reception staff who will be pleased to help you.

24 Hour Reception (Glen Eyre)

The reception is manned 24 hours a day and can be contacted on 02380 595975.

Banks

Most of the main high street banks are on the main Highfield Campus together with a bookshop and a Post Office. Cashpoints are located near the banks and next to the Student Union shop.

Catering

Dinner on 13th August will be in Southampton Harbour Hotel & Spa from 18:15 – 22:00.

Breakfast will be provided in Terrace Restaurant, Building, 38, Highfield Campus from 08:00-08:30 on 14th and 15th August morning.

Lunch on 14th August will be in Hartley Suite, Building 40, Highfield Campus from 13:00 – 14:00 and Dinner on 14th August will be at The Bridge, SUSU, Highfield Campus from 19:15 – 21:15.

Lunch on 15th August will be in Winchester Guildhall from 14:00 – 16:00.

Vending machines are available throughout the Halls of Residence and around the campuses.

Check out

Please vacate your bedroom by 08:00 am on the day of departure and ensure your key is returned to reception. A charge of £25 per key is made for any missing / lost keys.

Fire Detectors

Your room is fitted with a fire detector. They are extremely sensitive and can be set off by hair dryers, hair straighteners, large amounts of hair spray etc. It is advisable to open your room windows if you are using these types of equipment or styling products.

Fire Evacuation

Fire instructions are provided in your bedroom – please familiarise yourself with the emergency procedures.

Hairdresser

Shine Hairdressing is located on Highfield Campus above the Student Union Shop – contact directly www.shine-southampton.co.uk or 023 8059 5060

Housekeeping

Your bedroom will be supplied with: duvet, fitted sheet and two pillows, bath towel, hand towel, bath mat and soap. We do not supply any toiletries (e.g. shower gel, shampoo etc). The heating is turned off in the bedrooms during the summer (June – September) if you are cold and would like extra bedding, please contact Reception on 023 8059 5975.

Kitchens are equipped with: kettle, cups and saucers, teaspoons, tea/coffee, milk, tea towel, washing-up liquid and washing-up cloth.
Bedrooms and kitchens are serviced daily.

Internet Access

Free WiFi is available to conference guests via “Guest WiFi”. Connecting to the service is easy:

  1. Check your WiFi is on
  2. Select WiFi Guest from the available network list
  3. Open browser, refresh the page and follow the on-screen instructions to register or log in
 Ironing and Hairdryers

Iron, ironing boards and hair dryers are available from reception (a £5.00 deposit maybe required) – call 02380 595975

Laundry

Laundry facilities are available at your Halls of Residence – please ask at reception for details.

Medical Services

Please contact reception for first aid.
Should you require non-emergency medical assistance the University Health Centre is situated on the main Highfield Campus, telephone 023 8055 7531.
Southampton General Hospital has Accident & Emergency and eye units, telephone 023 8077 7222.

Residential Area

The Halls of Residence are often populated with other residents and are located in residential areas – so please be respectful to others. We request if you are arriving back to your Halls of Residence late in the evening that you return quietly.

Safety and Security

For your personal safety you will find a range of security measures in place, from digital locks to uniformed patrolling officers. However, we would urge you to take basic everyday precautions when staying in the Halls of Residence:

  • Don’t leave valuables in unoccupied rooms
  • Always lock your bedroom door; even for the shortest time
  • Keep your keys safe and the door codes confidential
  • If you are on the ground floor; use the window locks and catches and close the curtains when you are out
  • Remove items from view in your car and always keep it locked
  • Report any suspicions to Reception or University Staff; in an emergency call the police directly

 Shopping

The Student Union Shop on Highfield Campus sells a range of goods including fresh produce, newspapers, magazines and confectionery. A range of shops, restaurants and supermarkets can be found locally in Portswood but a wider selection is available in Southampton town centre, a short taxi or bus ride from the University.

Smoking

All University of Southampton buildings including bedrooms, dining rooms, social areas and enclosed courtyards are strictly non-smoking.

Sports Facilities

A fitness suite, 25m 6-lane swimming pool and 8-court sports hall are available at the Jubilee Sports Hall on the main Highfield Campus. Contact reception for details.

Telephones

Telephones are not provided in your bedroom. Public telephones are situated around the main Highfield campus.

Travel

The Uni-link bus service operates a wide service around Southampton. The main Interchange for the Uni-link bus service is situated on the Highfield Campus. There are Uni- Link bus stops on the main road, outside of your Halls of Residence (Glen Eyre Road).
