Agile Vancouver (and sponsored by our chapter) is pleased to be hosting Nate Oster of CodeSquads for one-day, immersive workshop: The Kanban Racing Challenge.
Learn the basics of Kanban while you build an obstacle course for radio-controlled cars in this fast-paced fun-filled event. Compete with other teams to build features for your racetrack while experiencing Kanban in action.
The focus of the Kanban Racing Challenge is on learning highly retainable skills that you can immediately apply to your own team. The workshop will also simulate some of the common pitfalls in a “fail-safe environment” so that you can understand and avoid making the same mistakes in the real world.
When: Tuesday, 17 November 2015 What Time: Registration starts: 8:00 am, Workshop runs from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Where: Marriott Pinnacle Hotel in downtown Vancouver
The Raspberry Pi 2 is a wonderful little computer that fits in the palm of one’s hand, yet packs enough power to run a home media center, a VPN, and a lot more. Before one can do anything awesome, however, configuration and installation of an operating system is required. The Raspberry Pi 2 BCM2836 (quad core ARM7) will be demonstrated. Some cool DIY projects will be demonstrated and taught, so that one can put together with this little miracle of a device.
The Workshop will be held on 15th and 16th of October 2015 from 2pm to 5pm (with 30 minutes coffee break). The first 30 registered participants will do the workshop for free. To Register for the workshop please register in the following link. Registration after first 30 will be charged $150 per head.
Venue: Room 2131, IEMCON Conference Room 4; 6133 University Boulevard, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, B.C., V6T 1Z1, Canada.

We’re Building What, When? Managing Change in UX Design
Date: Monday, September 21st, 2015 Time: Networking starts at 6pm, presentation starts at 6:30pm Place: Hootsuite at 5 E 8th Ave in Vancouver Website:http://agilevancouver.ca/… Registration:http://www.meetup.com/… (free, need to RSVP)
Our first meeting of the 2015-2016 season is with Su-Laine Brodsky, a local user experience practitioner and contractor. This will be our first meeting at the offices of Hootsuite. User experience design methods can dramatically improve a product, but it is not immediately obvious how to make them fit into Agile projects. Successfully integrating UX designers into Agile software development can require adaptations across the team in both process and culture.
Much Ado About Agile X
Date: Monday, October 26th, for the conference and Tuesday, October 27th, for tutorials Time: The conference starts at 8:30 am and tutorials start at 9 am. Place: Sutton Place Hotel on Burrard Website:http://agilevancouver.ca/… Registration:http://www.eventbrite.ca/…
2015 marks a significant achievement for the Vancouver Agile Methods Users Group. Agile Vancouver, as the group is more widely known, has been following its mandate of “educating its members, sharing experiences, promoting Agile approaches in the local BC software industry, and fostering academic and industrial research” since it’s inception in 2005, and having a great time doing it. This year will be our 10th Much Ado About Agile conference.
To commemorate the anniversary, we have invited Philippe Kruchten back to deliver the keynote speech. This year’s speaker lineup has a lot of new faces in it, some local and some not, including Jennifer Fawcett, Mark Lines, Adrian Moise, James Shore, Byron Packwood, Ardita Karaj, and Jeff Morgan. As has become our custom, we will be wrapping up the conference by having a Panel Discussion with all the speakers. There are three full-day tutorials to choose from: “Lean Software Delivery” with Matt Heusser, “Bringing Fluency to your Agile teams: Coaching for Best-Fit Agile” with James Shore, and “Disciplined Agile Delivery in a Nutshell” with Mark Lines.

Come hack a Windows 10 universal app together in solo or in a team of 3 people. Don’t have a team? You can join one after project ideas are pitched. Pitch your idea and get others to join you. Your hack can be any type of Windows 10 app except games. The top 3 teams will be given a prize. Registration is $20 regular, $10 for students. Your registration fee will help cover the cost of food. Main meals and snacks will be provided throughout the event.

This workshop gives students, faculty, and other attendees full access to experts from both Occipital and the Microsoft Kinect team and enables them to focus on creating something using the Kinect for Windows v2, Structure Sensor, or both! Come hack a project together over a 28-hour period and work solo or in teams (max five people per team).
You are encouraged to bring your own computer or mobile device*, but there will be plenty of Surface Pros, Kinect for Windows v2 sensors, and Structure Sensors for teams to borrow and use at the event.
This event will be held at BCIT. We are still working out the details on start time and agenda but plan for the event to be all day on Saturday, November 8th and wrap up in the afternoon on Sunday, November 9th.
All information will be made available on the registration website before registration opens.
Registration opens October 15th at 8:00am sharp.Space is limited to the first 100 people who register. There will be a $20 registration fee to cover the cost of food. Students may register for $10 (must present current student ID).
Programming and coding experience is not required to attend or qualify. At the beginning of the hackathon you will have the opportunity to pitch your application idea to recruit other attendees to join your team. You can let the audience know that you are looking for someone with technical programing knowledge to be part of your team. Having a good idea and a compelling pitch can help draw the right person. We typically keep the pitches short – about 2 minutes. You should be able to convey your idea and recruit another attendee/s.
We don’t want you to feel discouraged due to technical programing experience. A hackathon is successful because of the mix of talents and skills – We hope to see you there and let us know if you have any questions.
