Huan Tan received the “Technological Innovation Award” for outstanding and continuous contributions to innovation and leadership in creating service robotic systems significantly impacting the industry in various domains.
John Yagielski received the “Enhancement of the Relationship Between IEEE and Industry Award” for longstanding and significant contributions to technical committee activities, standards and guides representing the electric power industry.
2019 Future Cities Albany – Results
Section Volunteers Harsh Dinesh [Student Activities Chair] and Greg Watson [Computer Society Chair] participated as special awards judges in the future cities event held at Sage College on 12 Jan 2019.
This Year’s Theme was: Powering our Future – ‘Excellence in Energy Efficiency Applications’
The projects were done by Middle School Students. There were a total of eight projects that were eligible for this award and Greg and myself had narrowed down two finalists that would be getting the award. The first was the ‘Everland’ project by the North Colonie School and the second was ‘Gran Ola’ by the St. Thomas school.
The Everland project idea was a town located in Iceland near an active volcano that harvested geothermal and hydro power with houses specifically made from gypsum. The ‘Gran Ola’ project involved a city powered by tidal, wind and solar energy and each building had an individual solar panels for self sustainability.
