IEEE Technical Talk – Optimizing Measurements for Modeling Microwave Devices and Circuits

“Optimizing Measurements for Modeling Microwave Devices and Circuits” by Associate Professor Dominique Schreurs, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Catholic University of Leuven), Belgium.

Date:  March 21, 2011 (Monday)
Time:  7:00 pm – 8:30 pm
Venue:  PSDC, Room 1202, 1 Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah, 11900 Bayan Lepas, Penang, Malaysia

Admission is free.  Refreshments will be served at 6:30 pm.  Network and interact with like-minded engineers and researchers before the seminar begins.

Abstract

Models aimed for microwave circuit design are typically based on measurements as opposed to physical simulations. The time needed to acquire the data often takes longer than the model extraction itself.

The talk will focus on ways to render linear and non-linear characterization procedures more efficiently. Both equivalent circuit device modeling and behavioral circuit modeling (including

X-parameters(tm) are covered. Also de-embedding of loadpull measurements up to the intrinsic device, facilitating PA design, is addressed.

Speaker

Dominique Schreurs received the M.Sc. degree in electronic engineering and Ph.D. degree from the Katholieke Universiteit (K.U.) Leuven, Leuven, Belgium. She is currently Associate Professor at K.U.Leuven.

She has been Visiting Scientist with Agilent Technologies (USA), Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich (Switzerland), and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (USA). Her main research interests concern the (non)linear characterization and modeling of active microwave devices, and (non)linear hybrid and integrated circuit design. D. Schreurs serves on the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society (IEEE MTT-S) Administrative Committee (AdCom). She was vice-chair of the IEEE MTT-S Technical Coordinating Committee in 2009-2010, and since 2011 she is vice-chair of the IEEE MTT-S Education Committee. She also serves as education chair on the Executive Committee of the ARFTG organization. She was general chair of the 2007 Spring ARFTG Conference and co-chair of the European Microwave Conference in 2008. D. Schreurs is co-editor of two books and (co-)author of about 100 journal papers and 300 contributions at international conferences.
